America continue to become one of the
dominant factor in international community Following the latest country’s
national recognition on Same-sex marriage, the question rises, should we fear the America’s invasion? This
question does not rise without a basis of course. Long before America announces
this recognition, European are among one of the first to give such recognition.
But when the Supreme Court back in June ruled the law passing the same-sex
marriage, the talk is becoming hot issues around the world. It’s like the whole
world just recognize the same-sex marriage.
It is nothing new that America is
attempting to universalize their value, not only in terms of International
Politic, economy but also through culture. Interventions in Middle East,
pop-culture, movie industry are several example of the attempt. A striking
example is on how America pushes democracy around the world through
intervention, some of the countries are struggling to accept the idea of
Democracy. Egypt is one of the examples of how the attempt on adopting
democracy meet problem. Political uprising, society clash, and prejudice mark
probably one of the darkest times of Egypt.
The fear itself I say has a basis. This
domination in almost every sector sooner or later will crush the national and
traditional value of country. America’s products are widely available on the
market comparing to European and even local product, American television series
are available in many countries. Everybody is watching Marvel and many others
American movies. Fast food chain from America can be seen in almost every
corner of the town from Dublin until Japan.
Through Movies and Series, the life of
American is being promoted. From the comedy such as The Big Bang Theory until the glamorous life of high class New
Yorker in Sex in the city. The life
of individualistic and materialistic is being shown to us. This kind of values
which is sometimes backlashing national and traditional values is slowly
replacing the National value. People do no longer loving their own country,
they wanted to become American. Not to mention the culture of consumptive
brought the fast food chain from America which is not healthy.
Many have try and some have fail in
the process. The American way might look good on TV, But you cannot always
trust what have you seen on TV right?
